Very nice article. I use to live where chiggers carried you away if you did not have a boat anchor tied to your butt.

I hated to go out unless there was six inches of snow :). Then I found a life saver. Maybe they were my savior, I don't know, but they sure knew how to make the itching stop for ever.

I am not going to tell you want it is, but I'll tell you were to get it. It is worth the couple of bucks they ask for it.

marigolds are actually nice in salads and nothing else seems to like them.

Also, we have a beautiful strawberry patch. The animals (namely our two dogs. They kill everything else that tries to get in our garden) do eat them, but not in quantities that matter much.

Nice to know the name of that bug. I see them around the yard off and on and here and there. I'm feeding the birds but not up to seeding this year. I'm buying plants instead. I'm surprised that any seed can go straight into the ground at this time of year.

Louisa, Enjoyed your blog and the pictures from China. I have tried many methods to keep blue Hydrangeas blue, but they always turn pick. Also, we have Elderberry trees, the web says they are edible, or so the early Indians made juice from them. What do you know about the Elderberry fruit. Looking forward to a visit with you next week. The hydrangea are (or were) beautiful! I get to walk by a nice specimen on the way to work. I love watching it blossom and change from white to blue to green.

I eat rosehips, too. And rose petals, but that's another story.

Just read your posts to date. Very interesting! I like the "now's the time" bits. It would be great to see more photos of the Chinese gardens. I also like the little snippets about your animal neighbors. I wish now I had a possum in my yard.
